Canada Day Weekend = Heat Wave!

Hi everyone!

Happy Canada Day to all Canadians out there!

What a weekend it was! With the heat wave and the work that needed to be done. It was a really tiring weekend.

Despite the heat, I managed to get most of the things I wanted to do, with slight modifications. I wanted to be able to sit outside in my backyard, but it was not very inviting due to grass not growing because of pine trees spreading their needles everywhere and there wasn’t anything to it.

It looked like a dump to me.

After cleaning up the pine tree needles, I have planted some plants, filled the gaps into the cement blocks, bought new cushions and new umbrella and it already looks better. I even bought a little bird feeder to give a little life and bring the nature closer. 🙂 Not sure what do do about the grass area though.

It’s at least more inviting now and I will need to add some sort of a little gate to prevent my dogs to go eat and step into my flowers. I already lost one plant. LOL

Working in +40C for 2 days was exhausting. Let’s just say that it affected my running a bit. I still managed to go on Saturday, but I couldn’t do it on Sunday. I would have died of heat exhaustion and my body didn’t want to do more. My legs were killing me due to the work I have done the previous day.

I did most of my workouts though. I still ran for 4 days this week.

Here is a snap of my workouts:

Monday: 40 mins run (make up for Sunday’s rainy day)
Overall went pretty well. It is definitely not the same thing as running early in the day. The energy wasn’t there, but I did it all.

Tuesday: 30 mins run
My body was crying a little from Monday’s run. My knees and thighs were sore a little. I was tempted to not do it, but I kicked myself in the rear and did it anyway. I was looking forward to the workout to be over, but I still finished it.

Wednesday: Rest
I am glad this was a rest day. My body needed a break. I don’t think I would have been able to run much.

Thursday: 35 mins run + overall weight training
After a day of rest, my body was still feeling it, but not enough to say I should skip. Today was a warm day 30+ degrees celcius. It didn’t stop me. I brought water and it went pretty well considering. around 20 mins in, I was looking for it to end though. 🙂
I have done some weight training afterwards. I tried to fit in as much as I could in a limited time. I managed to work my legs and do biceps and triceps exercises.

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 25 mins run
Oh my god! This 25 mins run seemed to last forever. Here in the Toronto area, we had a extreme heat wave that is still going on. High 30Cs with humidex feeling like 45C. I am glad it was only 25 mins.

Sunday: 50  mins
Well, let me tell you, I didn’t do this one… I had worked outside all day on Saturday and with this heat, I couldn’t find my motivation to get out there. For those who can handle this heat, kudos!

Overall, it was a productive weekend and although it is not looking as I really wanted, I am happy with the result. I have done quite a bit despite this crazy heat wave.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Cheers!

  1. Kudos to you working in that heat! By far it was the hottest Canada I can remember!

  2. Oh my! I have no idea how you managed to do any running this past weekend! I wanted to take my bike out on Friday, but after walking home from the bus stop (which is a good 10-15 minute walk) I was like hell no! You go girl! 🙂
